Kamran came to Birmingham Settlement in 2011 shortly after completing his degree in Criminal Justice and Social Welfare. “I joined Birmingham Settlement to gain experience of working with vulnerable adults,” Kamran explained.
“I like everything about Birmingham Settlement. The people are friendly, everybody worked as a team and I didn’t feel I was on my own. The support here was the best support I could ever have had; they even supported me when I was looking for a job.”
Kamran joined our Money Advice – Outreach & Training team in order to do something with Probation, but as time went on his career path changed. “The more I worked here the more I saw money advice and how it helps and changes people’s lives. I decided to stay in the field as I can see the difference I’m making for people.”
Kamran was offered a job with Birmingham Settlement and is now working for us as a trainee Money Adviser.
“Everyone I spoke to told me that I was taking the right path in becoming a volunteer in order to get a job. I would advise anyone to start off as a volunteer as it is easier to get a job while already working.”
“It’s changed me”.

Kamran you should have volunteered at Forensic Science Services instead of Birmingham Settlement who work with the Police and Scientists. Which would have given you the opprtunity to learn about Forensics Science and the Law which relates to your Degree. They also offer Apprentiships and Paid Jobs, something worth researching..
