Today Birmingham Settlement launched its brand new Volunteer Forum to give volunteers a place to share their ideas and influence the decision making process. A delegation of volunteers came from each of our two offices and our shops to discuss what the Volunteer Forum should be, how it would work, and how it can help to shape the volunteering programme. After first agreeing a vision for the Volunteer Forum we brainstormed ideas under a range of headings – including ‘training’, ‘support’, ‘communications’, ‘recognition’ and ‘services’ – for ways the volunteering programme could progress and the opportunities that are currently available or could be created for volunteers. The first meeting was both interesting and enjoyable and from it we have gained a long list of ideas that we will soon be looking at implementing. Overall the launch of our Volunteer Forum was a great success and will hopefully give volunteers a place to have their say on the issues that will affect them.
