Tina’s story: A step back from life.

Tina started volunteering in one of Birmingham Settlement’s charity shops in 2005. At the time she was a carer for her husband and was unable to work, but she wanted to do something useful with her time so she looked at volunteering as an alternative. “Because I can’t work volunteering is a nice way to keep my mind active and get me out of the house,” Tina explains.

Tina has found that volunteering with Birmingham Settlement is a great way to have a break from the stresses in her life. “There are days when I feel down and there’s a lot going on in life, and it’s nice to have that outlet to forget about things for a while.”

“It’s been a really positive experience so I would highly recommend volunteering to other people.”
